Picture Perfect

I could make out the sound of crickets chirping in the distance. It was quite windy, and the trees swayed this way and that, creating a mass of eerie shadows.

There was no moon. Yet, the light entered through a canopy in the heart of the forest. I was not in an advantageous position enough to examine the source of the light.

I was lost, in the woods.

I could make out the faint whispering of the wind among the leaves, and the sound of liquid trickling down from a broken branch. Nevertheless, I jumped in surprise when I felt something wet land on my exposed foot. Looking down, I recognized the crimson viscosity and metallic whiff of…blood.
