Love

“I love you!” he yelled into the space between them.

She remained cold, emotionless, and his despondency grew. He had brought a single rose for her. Red was her favourite colour. But his touch was turned away from.

“Today’s our first anniversary, you know. You can forgive me now, you know I can’t live without you.”
He had dreamed of this moment for so long, yet she remained unrelenting. The night was chilly, their date was ruined.

“Could you please say something? I miss you.” Her emotionless face made his eyes water with helplessness. Happy endings are cliché, he thought.

She looked magnificent, her face as dainty as ever, her soft lips graced with a hint of pink. He had her face memorized better than his own, her touch constantly playing at the back of his mind.

He made to turn away, she still didn’t reply. This was it. One year of togetherness, and they were no longer together. How fitting.

And wiping his eyes raggedly, he spoke his last goodbye to her corpse.
