*Life Rejuvenated*
Time changes things. We are now ‘urbanized’ and have ‘modern’ thoughts, but have basic human needs changed from “ROTI KAPDA MAKAN”? This modern 21st century era of cut throat competition has
changed the definition of a happy life.
I remember my grandmother raising her nine grand-children: she would spend her entire day in the kitchen but still smiled all day and made her grand-children sleep by her side at night and narrated
mythological tales. Weren’t the people in 60s and 70s happy? Were they not ‘having a life’?
I believe they were leading a far more satisfactory and happy life. They weren’t dependent on money for their happiness. They were actually following the belief that ‘Money can’t buy you happiness’. The little chat with the neighbouring aunt, the regular visit to small sabzi mandi and dinner parties occasionally organized at home were their sources of entertainment.
Unlike today’s metro scenario, where the weekend means spending 2000 bucks in a mall for a dinner and still sleeping with a heavy head at night, wondering about how to earn more and more for a ‘secure’
life. Urbanization has undoubtedly has made our lives comfortable but has certainly taken away the real happy moments of our lives.
The famous Bollywood movie Lage Raho Munna Bhai has a dialogue that actually conveys the meaning of a high profile urbanized but stressful life “Sheher ki daud mein daud karna kya hai , agar yeh hi jeena hai toh doston phir marna kya hai,
Pehli baarish mein traffic jam mein phasne ka dar
Bhool gaye bhigtey huye tehelna kya hai
Serial ke kirdaron ka sara haal hai maloom
But Ma ka haal poochne ki fursat kahan hai
Ab ret pe nange paun tehelte kyu nahi,
108 hai channel phir bhi dil behelte kyu nahi
Internet se duniya mein toh touch mein hai
Par pados mein kaun rehta hai jante tak nahi
Mobile facebook watsapp sab ki bharmar hai
Lekin jigri dost tak paunche aise taar kahan hai
Kab doobte huye suraj ko dekha tha
Kab jana tha ki sham ka guzarna kya hai
Agar ye hi jeena h doston toh phir marna kya hai”
We are busy making our life well equipped and comfortable but still are not happy. The pressures of society, work pressure and peer pressure have gripped our lives firmly. We are busy running a rat race
to meet unrealistic goals and to achieve materialistic things, the list of which seems to be endless.
Technology may change with the passing years; but the basic ingredients of a happy life are not tangible.
Focus on things which really make a difference in your life, not on the ones which give you temporary happiness.
We all are running to catch every distant thing but forget to enjoy what we already have. Can we make the change?
