A LETTER TO MY FUTURE SELF
Dear future me,
Sometimes we tend to forget important things that life teaches us the hard way. So, here is a letter from your past to remind you of everything that you might have forgotten along the way.
1. Nothing is the end of the world. Low grades, a failed exam, a break up, a sucky job, a monster boss, a divorce...nothing is the end as we know it. During times when the going gets hard, just remember that in time, this too shall pass.
2. Being happy is your individual choice. You can choose to stand up to the soap opera life has to offer or stand back and let it kick you.
3. You are a human and you can to make mistakes. Sometimes we must make our own mistakes to learn what we otherwise wouldn't have. And for others to forgive you, you must first learn to forgive yourself.
4. Never change yourself to please anyone. There are a millions of people on this planet and trust me, a million different opinions are really difficult to live by.
5. Be loyal. Be humble. Be respectable. If you can't be anyone of these, no amount of success will compensate for the gaping hole in your character.
6. Life is beautiful. You get one shot at it. Make sure that years later when you are counting your last breath, you have something worth looking back.
7. Give love a second chance. Everything that is perfect is not meant to last. There is a reason that the people of your past are not a part of your future.
8. Always remember that you've never seen you own face in person...only in reflections and in pictures. So, learn to look at the bigger picture than concentrate on the smaller pieces.
9. Words are the most lethal weapons anyone can own. Be careful how you use them. Either they'll be your greatest asset or your worst enemies.
10. The dead can't be brought back. Mourn them and move on. Remember them not with tears but with the smiles that they deserve.
11. The world is a harsh place to live in. Accept it. Look at it as a means to strengthen yourself not as a reason to break you.
12. Never judge anyone. You are as unaware of someone else's demons as they are of yours.
13. More often than not, the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. So, never let go of your friends. They are the family you choose for yourself.
14. If you can't be a good enough parent, don't bring a child into this world. Your shortcomings will never be a justified reason for a life to suffer.
15. Make peace with your past. Don't carry the baggage of what has or has not been. Every new day is an opportunity for a new beginning. And while the past is not changeable, you can always create a different ending for yourself.
